Labelled the silly season due to the frivolous news stories which fill the summer months virtue of a lack of actual news to report on! However, with the Women’s Football World Cup, AFCON, Copa America, as well as the Cricket One Day World Cup and Wimbledon, there’s enough there to keep any journalist scribbling away for weeks.

So I guess there’s no room for the stories that no one expects to happen or probably will happen…guess again! The problem is, we all secretly love them. OK I do, I like to dream!

Yacine Brahimi to ArsenalRating: 7/10

Algeria international Yacine Brahimi has been linked this week with a possible move to North London joining Unai Emery’s mission to shoot Arsenal back up the table and into the Champions League. The Gunners will be ‘gunning’ for this deal to go through as they could snap up the attacking midfielder for a very generous price of exactly £0. His contract is due to expire this summer and Porto will not renew it.

The 29 year old has been a staple in Porto side ever since arriving in Portugal in 2014 from Grenada. He’s scored an impressive 53 goals for the club, including 13 last year. Porto fell short of the title, finishing 2 points off Benfica but qualifying for the Champions League qualifying. So Brahimi will have to trade that away to play in the Europa League next season if he is to join the Gunners.

With Arsenal tight on funds this summer, this one certainly has legs.

Martinez to Barcelona for £100 million!?Rating: 4/10

Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez has enjoyed an excellent Copa America campaign with a stuttering Argentina side. He opened the scoring in both Argentina’s decisive final group stage game against Qatar and their recent quarter final victory over Venezuela where he was also named Man of the Match, both games ended 2-0. He’s added a much needed dynamism to their front line who only managed one goal in their opening two games.

With performances like that it’s not hard to see why a club like Barcelona are interested in him. But it’s the price tag that will be raising people’s eyebrows. He’s only played in Europe for a year in a pretty underwhelming Inter Milan side who could only manage to finish 4th last year. Many would ask if after only scoring nine goals in Italy, is he worth £100 million and ready for this giant step up?!

Clearly Barca are dying for an Argentine goal machine, something they’ve certainly lacked since Maradona 👀

Coutinho back to Anfield!Rating: 3/10

This certainly no one saw coming. A return to Anfield for Phillippe Coutinho? Despite winning back-to-back La Liga titles with Barcelona, it’s no secret that Philippe Coutinho has been unable to recapture his prolific form that he so often showed for Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp will be scratching his head as to how his team were unable to topple Man City and lift the Premier League title, ways to improve are difficult to see. The re-signing of the Brazilian thunderbolt machine, a nickname I just made up, seems a good way for him to kick off this transfer window and show off the intent to take his team one step further next term.

The transfer to Barcelona got a little messy at times with Courtinho having to force the move, despite Klopps best efforts. The Anfield faithful aren’t exactly a forgiving bunch and for one who thought the Barca grass was greener, it seems unlikely he’ll come back to red side of the meadow.
