Whilst nations from around the world have been fiercely contesting the Women’s World Cup, another, less official competition has been playing around the clock for the last several days.
This marathon match took place in Lyon and featured 807 players, including numerous professional athletes such as Pakistani team captain Hajra Khan. In order to break the record for ‘largest number of players to appear continuously in a five-per-side match’ each player had to spend at least ten minutes on pitch and touch the ball at least once.
WE. DID. IT. After 69 hours of continuous play, 807 players on the pitch and a score of 404 – 369, we completed our world record attempt for the largest number of players to appear continuously in a 5-a-side match. *official numbers to follow! #AnyGirlAnyWhere @twitter @adidas pic.twitter.com/MBtdx0AGf2— Equal Playing Field (@EPFinitiative) July 1, 2019
